About this Initiative

As part of the Solarize Wellfleet campaign, the Solar Map is a state of the art mapping system that shows local residents and other property owners how much electricity can be produced on their rooftops from solar photovoltaic (PV) systems, how the investment will pay off, and how much pollution will be reduced. With just a click, property owners can review the map at home at their convenience to help decide whether to take advantage of generous one-time state subsidies, tax credits, and group rates available under the Commonwealth’s Solarize Massachusetts program.

The Wellfleet Energy Committee, Mass Audubon at Wellfleet Bay, the Tern Foundation, and private residents worked with Mapdwell to develop the Solar Map to help promote solar installations. Wellfleet is the first town to use this technology as part of Solarize Massachusetts.

Mapdwell developed the solar potential data delivered and visualized through Solar System as well as the complete cost/benefit analysis modules. Underlying input datasets and imagery used in this project was publicly available through MassGIS.

The Solar Map, which will be regularly updated to reflect changing market conditions and financial incentives, will assist the community in taking the next steps toward installing PV systems.

The Wellfleet Solar Map, created by Mapdwell and sponsored by the Mass Audubon at Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary is a cutting edge tool to assist individual home and business owners to assess options for installing solar PV panels.

All Wellfleet property owners are encouraged to explore the Map by looking up a local address. There will also be a series of training opportunities to learn how to maximize the Map’s facilities. To keep up with upcoming dates for informational and training events for the Solarize Wellfleet campaign, please visit the Solarize Wellfleet webpage and watch for newspaper and other local announcements. To learn more about the process behind solar panels, visit the Mass Clean Energy Center website.
